X By Trollbeads Designers - Kim Buck

“I see jewellery as a type of talisman and I think the X by Trollbeads collection reflects this really well. The person who chooses the X by Trollbeads collection has the freedom to make anything they want. It’s up to them how they want to express themselves and that’s wonderful. It’s a very individual collection. It pleases me greatly to think that the pieces I have made will have a very personal significance for the people who wear them.”

Kim studied at the Danish College of Jewellery and Silversmithing (now Institute of Precious Metals) and was a Professor in the Jewellery Department at the School of Design and Crafts, University of Gothenburg.

He has been collaborating with the Trollbeads team for many years and was one of the first designers to be approached for the X by Trollbeads collection. He was instantly drawn to the project: “When I considered the idea of using X links for the X by Trollbeads collection, I was convinced it would be a big success. I thought ‘what a great idea’. Nothing like this has been done before”.

So much so that Kim helped develop the design manual that provided the other designers with the technical framework from which to create their designs. He’s immensely proud of the work of the other “fantastic designers” who have worked on the collection and brought their own ideas and styles.

While the beauty and meaning in Kim’s X links are very much in the eye of the beholder, love and relationships are their central themes. X links such as “Yin Yang” – for lovers in a never ending embrace and “Double Hearts Within” - which represents a silent whisper of love, are all elegant representations of the enduring power of love.

Others, such as “My Heart” and “Heart Within” encourage us to follow our hearts, while “My Star”, which was inspired by Kim’s close relationship with his father, represents our own personal guiding star, that leads us on into our future.
